The significance of truck traffic on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road was emphasised by Engineer Suhail Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.
It was emphasised that the responsibilities of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure include the management, operation, maintenance and monitoring of the federal road network in a way that ensures improved quality of infrastructure and roads, ensures smooth traffic flow and enhances road safety.
In a written response to the Federal National Council (FNC), the Minister said that the the Ministry is working closely with its partners at the Ministry of Interior through coordination committees and joint teams to ensure that efforts are unified and the highest levels of traffic safety on the federal road network are achieved.
The Ministry of Interior and the General Directorates of Traffic in the local Emirates are the primary partners in the monitoring of traffic and its movement.
This is achieved by monitoring violators and applying the necessary legal penalties to ensure compliance with traffic rules and to enhance public safety on the roads.
The Minister elaborated that the challenges associated with the difficulty of trucks entering and exiting the Umm Al Quwain exit had previously been the subject of monitoring, and accordingly, coordination had been made with the Ministry of Interior to study the situation.
A traffic solution was adopted and implemented by applying the 'yellow box' to regulate traffic and achieve the required flow in that area.
Nonetheless, pursuant to ongoing surveillance of vehicular traffic, it was determined that a proportion of heavy goods vehicle operators are in contravention of regulatory signs prohibiting entry to the intersection area in the absence of unobstructed lanes.
Consequently, the requisite measures, encompassing the intensification of traffic awareness initiatives for drivers, will be expedited in conjunction with the Ministry of the Interior.
