Dubai Misdemeanour Court has sentenced an Eastern European woman to one month in jail, fined her Dhs3,500, and ordered her deportation after serving her sentence, following her conviction for damaging a chair inside a police station while under the influence of alcohol.
According to case details, the woman was detained at a Dubai police station for abusing alcohol and during her detention, she caused a disturbance and deliberately broke a chair, engaging in confrontational behaviour with the policemen before referral to the Public Prosecution.
During trial proceedings, the suspect denied the charges. Her lawyer requested an acquittal, arguing that there was no criminal intent and that her detention procedures were flawed. He also requested the court to show her leniency. The court rejected the defence, stating that the suspect was indeed responsible for her actions, and that being drunk does not eliminate criminal intent.
