Misdemeanour Court in Dubai fined an Asian driver Dhs3,000 and suspended his driving licence for three months, starting from the date of the verdict, after being convicted of hitting an African motorcyclist, causing injuries, and then fleeing the scene without reporting the incident to the police.
The incident dates back to December 2024 when Dubai Police received a report of a collision on Al Asayel Street in Dubai.
According to a police officer's testimony, upon arriving at the scene, he found the motorcyclist lying on the side of the road with moderate injuries, so he was immediately transported to the hospital for treatment.
Investigations revealed that the suspect drove negligently and without attention, failing to maintain a safe distance from the motorcycle, which resulted in the accident.
Preliminary examination of the accident site confirmed that the fleeing driver was entirely responsible for the collision.
The Criminal Investigation Team identified the driver after analysing CCTV footage from the area, and he was later arrested.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to causing the accident and fleeing the scene without providing any justification, despite the incident resulting in material damage and injury to another person.
