Dubai Police arrested a motorist for reckless showoff driving in Al Marmoom area during the rainfall in a clear violation of traffic laws that warn against reckless driving in unstable weather conditions.
According to Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Acting Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, traffic patrols detected a vehicle driver performing dangerous stunts and driving recklessly in Al Marmoom area, ignoring the warnings issued by Dubai Police on the necessity of abiding by laws during unstable weather conditions.
He pointed out that the driver of the vehicle was drifting and causing chaos in a manner that posed a risk to the safety of the public and the road, adding that his car was causing a lot of noise and consequently traffic patrols had to interfere and arrest him immediately. The vehicle was impounded and a fine was imposed on the driver in accordance with the federal traffic law, he said.
The provisions of decree no. 30 for 2023 regarding vehicle impoundment were also applied, which stipulated that Dhs50,000 must be paid before the vehicle could be released. Al Mazrouei affirmed that Dubai Police would not hesitate to confront dangerous behaviour on roads, noting that reckless driving could put the lives of drivers and others at risk and threaten public safety.
Dubai Police constantly detect dangerous violations, especially reckless driving and drifting, due to their dire consequences that may lead to serious traffic accidents and damage to lives and property, he said.
They also continuously launch awareness campaigns aimed at spreading the culture of traffic safety and avoiding reckless driving, including the ‘Safe Road for All’ campaign, he added, stressing the importance of community co-operation to create a safe traffic environment, especially during periods of weather fluctuations that would require more caution and care from all road users.
