The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian, 24, to 10 years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs100,000 on charges of possessing and abusing narcotic drugs and helping a fellow woman abuse drugs before he was arrested in a 5-star hotel.

The case dated back to last January when a tip-off was received stating that the defendant possessed narcotic drugs inside a hotel in Jebel Ali, Dubai.

A policeman stated that a team of detectives moved to the given location where the defendant and a woman, who was in the same place and looked as if she was abusing drugs, were arrested.

Upon searching the defendant’s place of residence, a dried herbal substance in a plastic bag weighing 33 grams as well as tobacco mixed with a herbal substance weighing 11 grams and a quantity of marijuana were found in his room.

Samples taken from the defendant and the woman showed that they had taken various narcotic substances. When referred to Dubai Public Prosecution, the woman admitted that she was abusing the narcotic substances that her fiancé (defendant) gave her free of charge.

On interrogation, the defendant admitted that he had been staying at the hotel for several days and that he had bought the narcotic drugs seized in his possession from an Asian drug dealer for Dhs18,000.
