The Court of Cassation in Dubai upheld a death sentence for an Asian worker. The verdict was issued by the Court of First Instance and upheld by the Court of Appeal.

The convict was found guilty of premeditatedly killing a businessman Hiren Adhiya and his wife Vidhi Adhiya, attempting to kill their daughter and stealing Dhs2,000, after he had broken into the victims’ villa in the Arabian Ranches area, Dubai.

Earlier in June 2020, the police received a report from the victims’ daughter stating that her parents had been assaulted by a housebreaker inside their villa in the Arabian Ranches.

The girl told the police that she had found a stranger in front of her parents’ room, as she rushed towards it when she heard them screeching.

The stranger assaulted her and stabbed her in the neck with a blunt object, intending to kill her, but she kicked him and fled the house, the girl told the police.

“I entered their room, where they were lying on the ground, drenched in blood, and I tried to talk to them, but there was no response from them. My sister also came to the room and I locked the door, after that I reported the incident to the police via my father's phone,” the girl stated.

The investigations team was able to identify the perpetrator. He was an Asian worker, 26, and worked in the victim's villa a number of months ago.

He was arrested and interrogated. He confessed that he had intended to rob the villa, so he broke into it by crossing the fence and then hid in the garden.

The worker also confessed that that he had bought a knife from a store near his residence, and hired a person to transport him from the Emirate of Sharjah to a refueling station in Arabian Ranches area in Dubai for Dhs70.

After that, he climbed the wall of the villa and landed in its garden, where he hid in it. He then entered the villa, searching for any money. He found Dhs2,000 in the victims’ room.

But, in the meantime, the man and his wife woke up, so he stabbed them several times until he was sure of their death, he told the authorities.

He was also surprised by their daughter in the place, so he stabbed her and fled, he added.

He also admitted that he had gotten rid of the knife he used in the crime 500 metres away from the crime scene.
