A junkie dragged a traffic police officer on his car bonnet for nearly 19-kms before he was stopped and apprehended.

The horrific incident, which almost was a near-death experience for the cop, happened in Vashi town of India's Mumbai and has left the victim flabbergasted.

23-year-old Aditya Bhende from Nerul town has been charged with attempt to murder and the legal proceedings have begun against him.

It all started on Saturday afternoon when Siddheshwar Mali, a traffic police officer noticed Bhende's vehicle jumping a red signal, hit a car and continued moving at a high speed.

The cop, posted at Blue Diamond Squad, along with Constable Shinde chased the car on their bike and intercepted it near AMPC market.

They ordered Bhende to step out but in his attempt to flee hit Mali who was standing just in front of the car.

Mali quickly reacting to the situation jumped on to the bonnet of the speeding car and hung on to it for nearly 19 kilometres as accused refused to stop.

In the meantime Shinde called for reinforcement to save his colleague from the life-threatening situation.

A traffic team finally managed to stop and arrest him.

He was taken for a medical test which revealed that he had consumed marijuana.

Luckily, Mali did not sustained any injuries in the incident.
