If the K-Pop band have a global following, humdingers from Hindi and even regional cinema have also caught the fancy of South Koreans, even their envoys.

A 53-second video of the South Korean Ambassador in Delhi, Chang Jae-bok, doing the hook step of the pacy and catchy song ‘Naatu Naatu’ with the diplomatic staff has gone viral on social media. Staff from the South Korean embassy in India’s capital — many wearing traditional attire from both countries — are also seen remarkably synchronising their steps to the beat of the number.

The South Korean embassy called it ‘Naatu Naatu RRR Dance Cover — Korean Embassy in India.’

“Do you know Naatu? We are happy to share with you the Korean Ambassador Chang Jae-bok along with the embassy staff Naatu Naatu!!” it said in a tweet.

Twitterati went gaga over the video. “Wait wait wait now the Oscar will go to Ambassador Chang for giving a tough competition to @tarak9999,” tweeted a user, tagging Jr NTR.

“Loved it! Grateful for (to) the Korean Embassy,” said another, while a third said ‘those 3 guys till the end — you did splendid without giving up.'

The video has fetched more than 4 million views on Twitter as of Tuesday — and even praise from none other than the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Lively and adorable team effort,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi commented on Twitter on Sunday.

The video serves to re reinforce Seoul’s soft power diplomacy, according to reports in sections of the media.

Naatu Naatu, the song from the Indian period film ‘RRR,’ has already won a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award and could make history at the Oscar awards slated for March 12.

The positive response to the video reflects the growing popularity of South Korean culture in the country.

Indians are also setting a trend in South Korea’s entertainment industry. Singer Shreya Lenka, born and bred in Odisha, became India’s first homegrown K-pop star when she joined girl group Blackswan last year, while actor Anupam Tripathy starred in the award-winning South Korean Netflix show “Squid Game.”

“Naatu Naatu,” which translates to “dance dance, features South Indian megastars Ram Charan and N. T. Rama Rao Jr., known as Jr NTR.
