Nassar is an elected member of the ruling DMK party in Tamil Nadu.

Video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.
Members and heads of parties, especially the Bharatiya Janata Party in the same state, criticized the minister for his lack of respect for party workers.
Social media users also criticized the minister for such an inappropriate act.
