The Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi (DMT) affirmed that the fine of misusing the real estate in a manner that breaches customs or public morals, amounts to Dhs25,000, and Dhs50,000 in case of repeating the violation within a year from the first one, according to the law regulating the occupancy of real estate and housing units.

DMT called all for work to combat and get rid of the phenomenon of overcrowding or collective housing and the negative aspects resulting from it, when a group of people live in a housing unit whose area is not commensurate with the number of its tenants, which results in breaching security and safety procedures and violating public morals.

“Awareness campaign entitled "Your residence is your responsibility" was launched in the cities and regions of the emirate to confront the phenomenon and inspection campaigns were launched at the beginning of 2023 to monitor violators.”, DMT indicated.

During these campaigns, administrative penalties and fines ranging between Dhs5,000 and Dhs1million, were allegedly imposed.

DMT called on the public in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to cooperate to eliminate the phenomenon, monitoring the violators and reporting the phenomenon by contacting the Abu Dhabi Government Call Centre at 800555.
