Massive fire breaks out in Aden oil facility
People put out a fire at an oil facility in Aden.
A massive fire broke out today, Thursday, in an oil facility in Aden Governorate, which is declared the temporary capital of Yemen, leaving a number of wounded and heavy material losses, according to official sources.
An official source in the Yemeni Oil Company, which is under the authority of the internationally recognized government, stated that the fire broke out in the spills of the oil company in the oil port located in the Buriqa district, west of the city of Aden.
The same source confirmed that the fire was caused by a short circuit in one of the company's generators, before it spread to a nearby locomotive.
The fire injured at least three people from the facility's workers, without causing any deaths, in addition to significant material losses.
According to the information, the fire devoured three of the company's five spills, and destroyed two fuel trains that were parked at the scene of the accident.
The facility's firefighting mechanisms and civil defense teams immediately began their work in an attempt to control the fire and extinguish the fire, while the cost of pumping operations from the Aden Refineries Company was stopped.
Circulating pictures and video clips transmitted by social media pioneers showed large flames and thick clouds of smoke rising from the site before the fire was brought under control, which lasted for several hours, according to eyewitnesses and local residents in Aden.
