Mohammed announces new committee for citizens affairs and restructures Dubai Municipality

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai on Tuesday chaired Dubai Executive Council meeting and announced the establishment of a committee for development and citizen affairs, and the restructuring of Dubai Municipality and Land Department.

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, also attended the meeting.

“Today, I chaired a meeting of the Dubai Council at the Executive Office at Emirates Towers.. Our first decision was to establish a "Development and Citizens Affairs Committee" headed by Sheikh Hamdan,” tweeted Sheikh Mohammed.

The committee will supervise the development of files of social, housing and development services for citizens and develop and implement plans to provide development opportunities for young people.

“The Development and Citizens Affairs Committee aims to raise the quality of life of our citizens to be the best in the world, provide opportunities for our youth, and work to consolidate our community, family and population stability,” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted further.

“The goal of economic development in our country is to provide a decent life for our people. The committee's goal is to achieve this goal in the fastest and best way,” he tweeted.

“Today, during the Dubai Council meeting, we also decided to work on a comprehensive restructuring of Dubai Municipality and transform it into specialised institutions and a single regulatory body,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

The new restructuring aims to create economic opportunities worth Dhs10 billion and raise the quality of services by 20% during the coming period.

“We also decided today, during the Dubai Council meeting, to restructure the Dubai Land Department. The goal is to consolidate the leadership of our real estate sector globally by enhancing transparency, developing governance and increasing investment in this sector. We are optimistic about the new positive changes.

“During the meeting, we also decided a new system to ensure the sustainability of family businesses in the emirate,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

A center will be established for family businesses to support building systems that guarantee their continuity for at least 100 years.

Another center for arbitration and dispute resolution for them and the Dubai council also approved development of 4 new legal systems to ensure legislative flexibility.

“We also decided during the meeting to establish a committee headed by Sheikh Hamdan to oversee all future technological developments in the field of the digital economy in the emirate.”

At the Dubai Council meeting, we also adopted a new vision for the residential neighbourhoods of citizens in the emirate, to provide these neighborhoods and suburbs with economic opportunities for their children and to have the highest quality social and residential environment in the world.
