The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced four people of different nationalities to one year in jail to be followed by deportation and fined them Dhs3,000 and 2,000 Rupees.

The defendants kidnapped and assaulted an Asian for refusing to pay a debt of Dhs5,000 back to one of them. They also robbed the victim by coercion, photographed him nude and threatening to post his photos on Internet if he reported the incident to the police.

The case dated back to last September, when the victim reported to the police that he had been kidnapped, assaulted and robbed by coercion by four people. According to his testimony in the investigations, he borrowed Dhs5,000 from one of the defendants, who was his friend, but could not return the amount on time and consequently asked for more time to give the money back. On the day of the incident, the victim’s friend contacted him and agreed to meet in Al Karama in Dubai but the victim was surprised to find the defendant and three others forcing him to get in another car where they assaulted him.

The victim went on to say that the four defendants asked him to give the money back by the told them he did not have any money at the time. Consequently, they assaulted him and took his wallet in which they found Dhs3,000 as well as 2,000 rupees and an ATM, which one of the defendant used in the petrol station.

The defendants later took the victim to a neighbouring emirate and continued to assault him before stripping him of his clothes, photographing him and threatening him of posting the photos. They then allowed him to leave the vehicle and he reported what happened to the police.

A policeman stated in the investigations that a team of detectives were able to identify the perpetrators by tracking the purchase made by one of them in the petrol station.

On interrogation, the defendants confessed to the charge of kidnapping the victim in return for Dhs300 each.
