Civil Defence teams douse fire in Dubai hotel

The Dubai Civil Defence teams quelled a fire that erupted in a hotel in Al Rigga area in Dubai, without recording any injuries.

The Dubai Civil Defence Operations Room received a report at 11:55am on Thursday alerting a fire at the Gulf Plaza Hotel in Al Riga area. Instantly on receiving the report, fire teams of Port Said fire and rescue section arrived at the scene after 7 minutes, to find out that the fire gutted a store on the third floor of the hotel.

The team stressed that they and the Civil Defence units rescued stranded persons inside the place. Later, they evacuated it and controlled the fire.

A source stated that the field leader announced at 13.36am that the fire was controlled and the fire teams cooled it before referring the scene to the competent authorities, for the necessary investigations.

Recently, the Dubai Civil Defence squads successfully extinguished a fire that erupted on Wednesday afternoon at a plastic factory located in Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza). A thick cloud of black smoke blanketed the area due to the nature of the plastic material, sources at the Dubai Civil Defence said.

The squads ensured a safe evacuation of the factor personnel and no injuries have been reported, the source confirmed.

The firefighting teams rushed from the Jebel Ali Station to the site of the fire as soon as the operation room was alerted about the fire at 13:09 pm.

The firefighting teams reached the scene within 7 minutes, and were able with help of other teams from three Civil Defence stations to evacuate the factory from its workers without recording any injuries.

The source stated that the team brought the fire under control at 14:38 pm and that the thick smoke was caused by the burning of flammable plastic material.

Separately, Abu Dhabi Police have stated that it has fined 170 motorists for throwing trash across roads and public utilities during the first half of 2021.

Abu Dhabi Police have called upon all motorists to keep the environment clean and dispose the trash in designated places.
