An Asian gang attempted to kill an employee and a worker after refusing to pay Dhs5,000 in protection money to a group of people who were exacting sums of money from the residents of Al Quoz area in exchange for allowing them to live there.

The case dated back to last January when the police received a report on an assault and hence rushed to the scene to see two Asians with multiple injuries in different parts of their bodies.

The victims were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. According to one of the victims, he was near his house when the suspect came to him and asked him why he was late in paying money.

The suspect then poured a cup of tea on the victim’s body before other members of the gang starting attacking him with knives.

At this time, the second victim came and helped the first victim escape from the gang.

The second victim said he saw a group of people attacking the first victim. While he was trying to release him from the gang members, he was stabbed in the neck and abdomen.

He said the gang members assaulted them because two days before the incident, they refused to pay Dhs5,000 in protection money.

According to the report issued by the Dubai Police’s forensic lab, the victims sustained severe injuries that could lead to their death and they needed more than 20 days to recover.

Two of the suspects were arrested and referred to the public prosecution. The rest of the defendants were tried in absentia.

Recently, the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African woman to 3 months in prison and fined her Dhs200,000 on charges of possessing counterfeit dollars and defrauding an Asian seller.

She was also asked to pay for the items she purchased using fake bills and will be deported after serving her punishment.

According to the details the case took place in a store that sells electronics and accessories.

The convict and one of her compatriot came to inquire about the value of some of the displayed phones, then they left the store.
