Man drowns his girlfriend in bathtub claiming she was possessed by jinn in Dubai

The Dubai Court of Appeals sentenced a Canadian man to life imprisonment to be followed by deportation for killing his girlfriend by drowning her in a bathtub.

He claimed that she had committed suicide as she was possessed by jinn and that he was treating her.

According to the Public Prosecution’s investigations, the convict and the victim were in a relationship for long period, which witnessed frequent differences between them. She tried several time to separate from him, but he was holding on and chasing her.

It was also said that the convict had spread a period before committing the crime on March 26 last year that she was possess by the jinn. He claimed that he was the only one capable of treating her from the demonic possession.

He reportedly asked her friends to convince her of such a lie, but no one supported him.

He then decided to kill her and fabricated the suicide plot.

On the day of the crime, he took cannabis, and then assaulted her severely, causing her several injuries to her face, neck, and various areas of her body.

Then he took her to the bathtub and pressed her head into the water until she died, and left her in this position for about five hours.

The convict reportedly sustained injuries in his forearms and fingers, as the victim was resisting him.

The cop continued, “On the next day after the convict regained consciousness, he said that he had had an affair with the victim for about three years, but he noticed that she was behaving weirdly in the last period.”

He told the police that she was possessed by the jinn, so he recited exorcism on her. He was watching videos on how to exorcise demons, the convict told the police.

The forensic report confirmed that the death occurred in a criminal manner by drowning the victim in the bathtub, and all injuries contradict the convict’s claim.

The accused appealed before the Court of Appeal against the ruling of the Court of First Instance, but the Court rejected his pleas.

The Court also rejected the Public Prosecution's demand to consider the crime a premeditated murder. He was sentenced to life imprisonment to be followed by deportation.
