Mamnoon Hussain
Former Pakistan president Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday passed away after a prolonged illness in Karachi at the age of 80, his son has confirmed.
Mamnoon Hussain was suffering from cancer and had been hospitalised for the past two weeks, his son Arsalan Mamnoon said.
Hussain was the 12th president of Pakistan, who served from 2013 to 2018 during the tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N). He was one of the most senior PML-N leaders. Hussain had replaced Asif Ali Zardari and was succeeded by Arif Alvi of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI).
Pakistani politicians took to twitter to express their deep sorrow over the death of former president.
The ruling party Senator Faisal Javed Khan offered condolences at the passing of Hussain, praying for strength for his family members to cope with the loss.
Murtaza Wahab, adviser to Sindh chief minister, also shared sadness at Hussain's demise, saying "he served his office with grace and dignity."
