The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced an Asian engineer to 6 months in jail and fined him Dhs13,348 for using his authority to seize maintenance equipment from a government facility in Dubai.

He will be deported after serving his sentence.

Official records reveal that the government company working in buildings maintenance had discovered the embezzlement and filed a police report against the defendant.

The company’s auditing department noticed that the defendant used the authority given to him to order various equipment, but did not use them at the sites that fell under his responsibility.

The legal officer testified that the defendant had ordered maintenance equipment worth Dhs13,348 to maintain the AC of a media building in Dubai, but did not actually use those material.

The defendant was called to be questioned by the company, and had confessed to seizing the equipment.

He was eventually arrested by police and prosecuted.
