The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian businessman to five years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs15,000 after being convicted of facilitating drug abuse for others who were referred to the misdemeanor court.

The court ruled in the same case that a security guard be acquitted of the drug trafficking charge.

The case dated back to last June, when the police received a tip-off that the convict was abusing and possessed a quantity of drugs.

A policeman testified that he, accompanied by a man and a woman, moved to the convict’s residence. On interrogation, the convict confessed to possessing a quantity of drugs, which he brought from a cupboard in his house. The other two people confessed to abusing drugs, which the convict supplied to them.

The policeman stated that the convict accused the security guard of supplying him with drugs in exchange for money.
