A 28-year-old Asian man was jailed and referred to criminal court for stalking a victim and robbing him of Dhs2,500 in the streets of Dubai.

The incident dates back to November last year, when an Asian man filed a police report against the defendant claiming he was assaulted and robbed after withdrawing Dhs2,500 from an ATM machine in one of Dubai’s hypermarkets.

Police learnt that the defendant had stalked the victim after he withdrew the money, and used pepper spray on the victim’s face to steal the money.

The victim testified that he tried to defend himself and struggled with defendant until Dhs300 fell from the stolen amount, while the defendant fled with the rest.

Investigations revealed the identity of the thief and he was successfully arrested by police.

The defendant confessed to his crime and was prosecuted on robbery charges by the Dubai Public Prosecution.
