Indian expats residing in the UAE can now include their UAE address in their passports.

An officer at the UAE consulate in Dubai said NRIs would have to apply for a new passport to avail the service.

The service aims to help those who have been living in the UAE for a long time and don’t have any permanent address in India.

The officer also said that documents required to apply for the new passport would be done by providing DEWA, FEWA, SEWA, and telephone bills which would be used as proof of address in the UAE.

The service is applicable for expats who own a house or live in a rented apartment. However, the applicants have to give only one address in the passport application.

The authorities have urged Indians to make use of this service and correct their address status.

On the other hand, the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has advised NRIs to follow the precautionary measures in the UAE and urged everyone to apply for passport services online.

The embassy said it would process those Passport applications of applicants, whose Passports/UAE  Residence  Visas have either expired or will be expiring by November 30, 2020.

The embassy also said if someone has an emergency passport service requirement, the person could scan and send the documents, explaining the emergency through email: @cons.abudhabi@mea.gov.in

The embassy will respond to all such emails and provide necessary Consular service.

“All Indian nationals are requested to kindly abide by the above advisory with immediate effect until further notice,” the circular read.
