The Dubai Public Prosecution referred a European woman and an Arab to the Dubai Criminal Court on charges of assaulting a policeman on duty.

The case dated back to last June when a policeman went to a place based on a report received by the operations room from the inhabitants of a residential tower in Palm Jumeirah who complained about disturbance coming from inside an apartment.

The policeman stated that the first defendant insulted him as soon as he arrived at the door of her apartment to enquire about why the neighbours were getting disturbed. The second defendant did the same when he insulted him, the policeman added.

The first defendant confessed to the charge levelled against her, while the second defendant confessed to having insulted the policeman because he was under the influence of alcoholic beverages.

The court ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody pending prosecution.

In another development, the Dubai Public Prosecution referred an Asian employee, 26, to the Dubai Criminal Court on charges of stealing 20 laptops worth Dhs75,000 and other supplies worth around Dhs10,000 in collaboration with other accomplices.

The case dated back to last July when a company manager filed a complaint in which he accused an employee of stealing laptops and other supplies from the company’s stores.

The prosecution witness testified that he had been working as manager for the company for 12 years, adding that as the company used to inventory the contents of its stores every 6 months, he discovered that 20 laptops had been missing.

On interrogation, the defendant confessed to having stolen and sold the laptops for Dhs700 each in collaboration with two accomplices. After being faced with the defendant’s confession, the two accomplices confessed to the charges.

The court ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody pending prosecution.
