Drunk driver to pay Dhs496,000 for causing death of a man, injury to another in Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance asked a driver to pay an amount of Dhs496,429 to an insurance company as compensation for  driving under the influence of alcohol and causing the death and injury of two people, and the total loss of their vehicle.

Official records indicate that the insurance company has filed a lawsuit, demanding that the defendant, the driver, should pay over Dhs524,000 and pay the legal interest of 12% for causing the death and injury of two people while driving under the influence of alcohol.

The insurance company covered the accident and paid an amount of Dhs28,000 to the company that owns the damaged vehicle, and paid Dhs372,910 to the injured passenger, and also paid the blood money to the deceased passenger’s family worth Dhs123,519.

A forensics doctor was appointed by the court to review the case file and acknowledge whether the accident was caused due to alcohol effects or not.

The Abu Dhabi Court of Instance ruled that the defendant must pay the mentioned amount to the insurance company, as well as cover the case fees and expenses.
