A Filipino maid, 39 years old, was detained and referred to criminal court, after she tricked two maintenance workers to help her steal an estimated amount of Dhs40,000 from employers.

Official records indicate that the maid was working for two employers, who lived in a Dubai hotel apartment and was out of the country at the time of the incident.

Details of the incident date back to last July, when the maid called the hotel management, and claimed that a bad smell was coming out of the bathroom; but that was only an excuse to trick the hotel workers.

After the workers arrived to the room, the suspect asked them to change the lock of one of the drawers, pretending that the key was lost.

The sneaky suspect succeeded in outsmarting the workers and got a new padlock for the drawer that has all the victims’ money. She stole a total amount of Dhs40,000 and ran away.

Thirty thousand were in Dirhams, while the rest were in foreign currency.

The victim’s sister discovered the disappearance of the maid, and immediately informed the victim. The sister found out about the stolen money and reported the theft to police.

The hotel management investigated the incident and found that the maid was the one repeatedly requesting maintenance work for the room. The two hotel workers denied their relation to the theft or the suspect.

The suspect was detained and referred to criminal court to be punished for her actions.
