EXCLUSIVE: UAE will implement 35 water projects at a cost of over Dhs2 billion

Director General of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) Mohammed Saleh, revealed to Al Khaleej that FEWA would implement 35 future projects in the water sector, at a cost of more than Dhs2.87 billion .

Saleh said FEWA plans to finalise 7 projects in 2020, with a cost of Dhs304 million, in addition to 28 projects to be completed in the coming years at an estimated cost of Dhs2.56 billion.

Saleh explained the projects include all regions such as Umm Al Quwain Emirate, where two 1,800 mm water transmission lines will be constructed and extended from the new desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain to the water distribution centre in the Al Khuraija area in Ras Al Khaimah, at a cost of Dhs400 million, aiming to transport water from the Desalination plant to the distribution centre in the Al Khuraija area, to be transplanted and distributed thereafter to the various regions in the Emirate.

According to Saleh, The projects also include the construction and extension of a 1,200 mm water transmission line from the new desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain to the emirate's water distribution centre, at a cost of Dhs130 million, aiming to transport water from the desalination plant to the current distribution centre in the emirate, in preparation to transport and distribute it thereafter to various regions in Umm Al Quwain and Ajman.

A water transmission line will also be constructed and extended from the water distribution centre in the Al Khuraija area in Ras Al Khaimah to the current water distribution centre, at a cost of Dhs130 million, to transport water to the various regions of the Emirate.

A water transmission line will also be constructed and extended from the new desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain to the water distribution centre in the Al Kharijah and Bateen Al Samar areas in Rak, at a cost of Dhs55 million, with the aim of transporting water to areas in the Emirate of Rak.


Projects in the Emirate of Ajman include a project to construct and extend a 1,200-mm water transmission line from the new water distribution centre in the Al Khuraija area to the proposed new water distribution centre in the Al Hilu area in the Emirate of Ajman, at a cost of Dhs160 million, to transfer the amount of water required to the various emirate regions.

Saleh indicated that FEWA would establish water tanks with a capacity of 150 million gallons at the water distribution centre in Al Khuraija, at a cost of Dhs400 million, with the aim of storing the water produced in the new desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain to transport it to various regions.

FEWA also plans to establish a strategic link project for water transmission networks between the two networks of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority and Abu Dhabi Water Authority and Electricity in the Umm Al Quwain area, at a cost of Dhs5 million.

The projects include the construction of a 5 million gallon water tank at the water distribution centre in Falaj Al Mualla in Umm Al Quwain, at a cost of Dhs24 million, aiming to store water to be transported and distributed from the new water distribution centre in Al Kharijah to various regions.

Saleh said, "Projects in the Emirate of Ajman include a project to construct and extend a 1,200-mm water transmission line from the new water distribution centre in the Al Khuraija area to the proposed new water distribution centre in the Al Hilu area in the Emirate of Ajman, at a cost of Dhs160 million, to transfer the amount of water required to the various emirate regions."

A 1,200 mm diameter water transmission line will be constructed and extended from the proposed new water distribution centre in the Hilu area to the current water distribution centre in Ajman, at a cost of 88 million, aiming to transport water to different areas, in addition to the strategic linkage project for water transmission networks between the two networks of The Federal Electricity and Water Authority and the Dubai Water and Electricity Authority in the Madam and Masfout areas, at a cost of Dhs5 million.

There are also projects for constructing 10 million gallons of water tanks in the new water distribution centre in the Hilu region, at a cost of Dhs60 million, to store water and transport it from the new distribution centre in Al Kharijah for transportation and distribution to other regions.

In addition to the project of constructing and extending a Dhs65 million water transmission line from the water distribution centre in Ajman to transfer and distribute the required water to multiple regions in the emirate.
