The Dubai Appellate Court commuted the Court of First Instance ruling sentencing a 26-year-old European to three months instead of one year, to be followed by deportation. The suspect reportedly assaulted two policemen.
Details dates back to earlier when a drunk European assaulted a policeman while he was on duty, beating him and assaulting another officer in the Jumeirah area.
The officers who found the suspect in an abnormal condition, controlled him, and took him to the police station, where they have made a report of the incident upon which he was referred to the prosecution.
In a separate case the Sharjah Criminal Court sentenced an Asian to three years in jail to be followed by deportation and 3 Asian accomplices to 6 months in jail to be followed by deportation after being convicted of robbing a store in Sharjah.
The case dated back to a report that a Sharjah-based store had been robbed. Security and CID teams visited the store in question to lift fingerprints and gather information that would lead to the perpetrators.
The teams found that the perpetrators had destroyed the door of the store to get in. By lifting the fingerprints, the teams were able to arrest the perpetrators and refer them to the courts of law.
During the interrogations, the defendants admitted to the charge of robbing the store and confirmed they had accompanied the police to the store.
When faced by the court, however, the perpetrators denied all the charges including accompanying the police to the robbed store. As a pretext, the perpetrators said they were not in Sharjah at the time because they were in Dubai.
The victim, store owner, waived his personal right in the case during his presence in the court for testimony.
Recently in a separate case a 38-year-old African attacked a food company owner and stole Dhs20,000 from him. The victim withdrew Dhs70,000 from the bank and while he walked, he was surprised with the suspect hugging him and kicking him to the ground.
An unemployed African woman, 34, lured an Asian man, 33, with her accomplices and stole Dhs60,000 from his possession.
An Asian man, 48, sought the help of two policemen who he knew very well to arrest the son of his partner, 24, and force him to sign a promissory note for Dhs132,000 in financial obligations to be paid by his partner.
A trespasser insulted police officers and bragged about being an American, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Monday.
