Palestinian officials said an Egyptian-mediated ceasefire agreement was reached with Israel on Monday to end a recent surge of violence in the Gaza Strip and southern Israel.
“The ceasefire understanding will begin on Monday 04:30 (01:30 GMT)” a Palestinian official familiar with the agreement told Reuters.
A second Palestinian official confirmed that a deal was reached, as well a TV station belonging to Hamas, Gaza’s Islamist rulers.
Israeli forces attacked Hamas positions in Gaza after rockets fired from the Palestinian enclave hit the Jewish state, the military said early on Saturday.
"The killing of young people on the borders of the Gaza Strip is a continuation of the (Israeli) occupation's crimes everywhere, in the West Bank and Jerusalem," Hamas spokesman Hazem Qasem sa
Security sources in Gaza confirmed to media that there were strikes in the area of Khan Yunis, at the southern tip of the Palestinian territory of two million inhabitants.
