Athletes from Sharjah Women’s Sports Club won six medals—two gold, three silver, and one bronze—representing the UAE national archery team at the West Asia Archery Championship, held in Fujairah from October 15 to 22, 2026.
The results highlighted their contribution to the national team and ability to compete successfully across different age groups.
Six athletes from Sharjah Women’s Sports Club represented the UAE at the championship: Amna Al Awadhi, Hessa Al Awadhi, Maitha Al Nuaimi, Samia Odineva, Sheikha Al Ali, and Mona Al Shara. They competed in recurve and compound archery across individual, team, and mixed team events.
Samia’s two golds highlight athlete development: Samia’s two gold medals marked an important step forward in her sporting career, with no more than three years of training since she took up archery at Sharjah Women’s Sports Club.
Her progress over this relatively short period reflects the club’s approach to identifying potential, building strong foundations, and progressively developing age-group athletes. It also supports Sharjah Women’s Sports’ strategic focus on developing a broad base of talent capable of contributing to national teams.
Although her date of birth fell just a few days outside the minimum age requirement for the Dakar Youth Olympic Games, making her ineligible to compete, this did not diminish her ambition or interrupt her development. She continued to demonstrate consistent technical performance and the ability to compete and achieve results at subsequent events.
Mai Al Amri: Progressive Preparation Builds Lasting Success Across Generations: Mai Al Amri, Deputy Director of Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, said the results reflected the effectiveness of the club’s technical and athlete development programs across age groups. She added that repeated achievements at different age levels were an important indicator of sustained progress, rather than success limited to a single generation.
“At Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, we believe achievement begins with balanced attention to every age group. We apply this approach across our sports, particularly archery, where we are seeing the results through medals at both senior and age-group levels,” she said.
“By developing a broad base of athletes, we prepare successive groups who are ready to represent and compete. Our training system is built on appropriate progression, careful development of fundamental skills, and giving each age group sufficient time to build its abilities before moving to higher levels of competition.
“We always welcome opportunities to assess the impact of this work and see the results of our long-term investment in athlete development.”
The athletes’ results at the West Asia Archery Championship underline Sharjah Women’s Sports Club’s continued contribution to national teams through the development of capable athletes. They also reflect Sharjah Women’s Sports’ commitment to preparing successive generations of sportswomen who can represent the UAE and compete for podium places, strengthening the presence of Emirati women’s sport regionally and internationally.
