Al Wasl delivered a dominant performance to defeat Al Wahda 57–19 in the UAE Youth Handball competition at Al Wasl Indoor Sports Hall on Thursday.
Playing at home, Al Wasl established their superiority early in the match, taking a commanding 28–8 lead at half-time.
Their attacking strength and consistent scoring continued in the second half, as they maintained control of the game and extended their advantage.
Al Wasl’s impressive offensive display proved too much for Al Wahda, who were unable to close the gap as the home side continued to find the net throughout the contest.
The match concluded with Al Wasl securing a comprehensive 57–19 victory, underlining their strong performance in the youth handball competition.
Match between Al Wasl and Al Wahda was officiated by Dr Omar Al Zubair Al Marzouqi, an internationally certified handball referee and elite-level technical observer.
International, Olympic and world-level handball referee Omar Al Marzouqi began his sporting journey as a player with Al Nasr Club, where he played from 1984 to 1998 before embarking on a distinguished career in officiating.
His rise on the international stage began with the awarding of his continental referee badge in Muscat in 2000, followed by his international badge in Kuwait in 2003.
Al Marzouqi reached a historic milestone in 2011 when he officiated the World Championship final between Germany and Denmark in Greece. His appointment marked a breakthrough for non-European referees, ending Europe’s long-standing dominance of officiating men’s World Championship finals since the establishment of the International Handball Federation (IHF).
In recognition of this landmark achievement and his outstanding contribution to the sport, Al Marzouqi received the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award and the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Sports Excellence Award, cementing his place among the UAE’s distinguished sporting officials.
Meanwhile, in what proved to be the most explosive offensive game of the schedule, Dibba Al Hisn outgunned Al Dhafra in a high-octane battle ending 59-37. Both teams pushed the pace early, but Dibba Al Hisn’s sharp shooting in the second half broke open a close contest, securing a well-earned win on the road.
Sharjah made a powerful statement away from home, dismantling Al Ain 45-18.
At the Al Nasr Club Hall, Al Nasr earned a hard-fought victory against a resilient Al Bataeh squad. Controlling the tempo through smart half-court execution, Al Nasr safely managed the lead down the stretch to seal a 46-30 triumph.
