The UAE Youth Handball League 2026/27 produced a high scoring and action-packed round of fixtures on Friday, with Al Jazira, Kalba, Shabab Al Ahli, Sharjah, Al Wasl and Al Madam all recording victories.
The day’s closest contest saw Al Madam fight back from behind to defeat Al Bataeh 45-37. Al Bataeh went into the interval with a narrow 23-22 lead, but Al Madam raised their level after the break, overturning the deficit with a strong second-half display to claim an eight-goal victory.
Dr. Major Omar Zubair Al Marzouqi officiated the closely contested Youth Handball League match between Al Madam and Al Bataeh.
International, Olympic, and world-level referee Omar Al Marzouqi began his playing career with Al Nasr Club from 1984 to 1998 before transitioning into officiating.
He shattered the European monopoly in handball officiating by becoming the first Asian referee to take charge of World Cup semi-finals and finals, ushering in a new era for Arab and Asian officials.
His credentials sparkled with appearances at 60 global championships, including: World Championships in Sweden and Spain, World Youth Cups in Egypt and Greece, Women's World Cup in South Korea, Asian Games in Qatar and China, Olympic Games in London 2012 and Rio 2016 and Confederations Cup in Qatar.
In August 2016, he made history as the only Asian selected to represent Brazil as a technical observer, overseeing 12 high-stakes men’s matches, including a quarter-final and semi-final.
Al Jazira delivered the most emphatic result of the day, overpowering Bani Yas 79-17 in a commanding display. Al Jazira dominated from the outset and maintained their intensity throughout the match, producing a prolific attacking performance while keeping Bani Yas under sustained pressure.
Kalba also enjoyed a convincing victory, defeating Al Wahda 45-24. Kalba controlled proceedings for much of the contest and combined effective attacking play with a disciplined defensive effort to secure a comfortable 21-goal win.
Shabab Al Ahli recorded another strong result, overcoming Al Ain 44-34. The 10-goal margin reflected Shabab Al Ahli’s consistent performance as they maintained control and kept Al Ain at bay through the decisive stages.
Sharjah were also among the winners, beating Al Nasr 41-28. Sharjah produced a composed performance and built their advantage through the match before closing out a convincing 13-goal victory.
Al Wasl secured a 41-31 victory over Khorfakkan in another high-scoring encounter. The two sides produced an attacking contest, but Al Wasl proved more effective in the key moments to finish with a 10-goal margin.
With several teams producing impressive attacking numbers, Friday’s results underlined the competitive nature of the UAE Youth Handball League and the depth of young talent on display across the 2026/27 season.
