The UAE snooker team, comprising Mohammed Shehab, Khalid Al Kamali and Abdulrahman Al Shamsi, won gold in the team event at the 4th GCC Games - Doha 2026, following a strong performance in the final rounds, adding another gold medal to the UAE’s tally at the Games.
In shooting, Ghaya Al Shuhail and Mohammed Al Kaabi won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Al Shuhail also claimed silver in the women’s individual 10m air pistol event after qualifying for the final and producing an impressive performance throughout the competition.
The UAE mixed trap shooting team also secured the silver medal and second place through shooter Sheikh Mohammed bin Dalmook bin Juma Al Maktoum and shooter Aisha Al Yassi.
The UAE women’s 10m air pistol team won bronze through Mahra Al Suwaidi, Ghaya Al Shuhail and Intisar Al Junaibi. The UAE trap shooting team also added bronze in the team event, while Yahya Al Mehairi claimed bronze in the men’s individual trap event.
Shehab Ahmed Alsaedi opened the UAE’s archery medal account at the GCC Games by winning bronze in the men’s individual compound event.
Mohammed Shehab expressed his delight at winning gold and bronze in the snooker competitions at the GCC Games - Doha 2026. He said: “I dedicate this achievement to our wise leadership, led by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, may God protect him, and Their Highnesses the Rulers of the Emirates. I also extend my thanks to the UAE Olympic Committee for giving us the opportunity to take part in this major sporting event. I hope to continue participating and representing the nation in various upcoming events.”
Ghaya Al Shuhail affirmed that winning gold in the mixed pistol event, as well as individual silver and team bronze, represents a major motivation to continue training and working towards achieving better results and raising the UAE flag at upcoming sporting events. She also praised the outstanding atmosphere of the championship and Qatar’s organisation of the event.
Mahra Al Suwaidi said she recorded a personal best in the individual competition with 556 points and qualified for the final before finishing sixth. She expressed her pride in her first GCC Games appearance and in winning team bronze alongside her teammates.
Yahya Al Mehairi extended his thanks to the UAE Olympic Committee and the UAE Shooting Federation for their continued support, affirming that returning to the podium marks a new beginning for further achievements in the next stage.
With these results, the UAE’s medal tally at the 4th GCC Games rose to 50 medals, comprising nine gold, 14 silver and 27 bronze.
Meanwhile, the UAE national karate team has departed for Doha, the Qatari capital, to compete in the karate events at the GCC Games 2026. The karate competitions get under way on Thursday, 21 May, with the participation of elite athletes from GCC national teams.
The UAE team will compete across the five men’s kumite weight categories. Ibrahim Ahmed Bakhit will represent the UAE in the under-60kg category, Rashid Khaled Al-Saridi in the under-67kg category, Ali Nasser Ahmed in the under-75kg category, Ali Abdullah Al Ali in the under-84kg category, and Saif Rashid Al-Qaidi in the over-84kg category.
Earlier, the UAE delegation continued its strong performance at the Games, securing a new series of medals across several sports. Abdulaziz Almheiri won gold in the men’s under-68kg taekwondo category, while Maha Rabie claimed silver in the women’s under-57kg category, and Salma Al Ketbi added bronze in the women’s under-67kg category, underlining the UAE taekwondo team’s strong presence in the Gulf competition.
In fencing, Fares Al Balooshi won bronze in the foil event, while Shaikha Al Zaabi claimed bronze in épée. Swimmer Hussain Shawqi also secured bronze in the men’s 100m freestyle with a time of 51.84 seconds.
The UAE national equestrian team won silver in the team show jumping competition, continuing the medal-winning momentum and adding to the UAE’s overall tally at the Games.
