UAE shooting team made the nation proud with a dominant performance at the 4th GCC Games in Doha.
Ghaya Al Shuhail and Mohammed Al Kaabi won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
Sheikh Juma Bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Fazza Shooting Team and captain of the UAE national team, praised the achievement, saying that we are accustomed to our shooters achieving success, and they have performed very well and lived up to the responsibility placed upon them.
He added that these results are an extension of the recent achievement at the same venue in the Asian Shooting Championship, where our shooters won the continental bronze medal, and that these results mark a good start to a season full of competitions, in which we hope to continue participating at various levels and see our shooters on the podiums.
“The championship witnessed the participation of world and Olympic champions, and that the competition was strong and exciting. Our shooters performed well and were very close to winning the silver medal, both individually and in the team event,” he said.
He also thanked the UAE Olympic Committee and the UAE Shooting Federation for the facilitation and support provided to the shooters during the championship.
He congratulated the three shooters who contributed to this achievement: Sheikh Mohammed Bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, Saif Manaa Al Shamsi, and Yahya Suhail Al Muhairi.
Ghaya also claimed silver in the women’s individual 10m air pistol event after qualifying for the final and producing an impressive performance throughout the competition.
The UAE mixed trap shooting team also secured the silver medal and second place through shooter Sheikh Mohammed Bin Dalmook bin Juma Al Maktoum and shooter Aisha Al Yassi.
The UAE women’s 10m air pistol team won bronze through Mahra Al Suwaidi, Ghaya Al Shuhail and Intisar Al Junaibi.
The UAE trap shooting team also added bronze in the team event, while Yahya Suhail Al Muhairi claimed bronze in the men’s individual trap event.
Ghaya Al Shuhail affirmed that winning gold in the mixed pistol event, as well as individual silver and team bronze, represents a major motivation to continue training and working towards achieving better results and raising the UAE flag at upcoming sporting events. She also praised the outstanding atmosphere of the championship and Qatar’s organisation of the event.
Mahra Al Suwaidi said she recorded a personal best in the individual competition with 556 points and qualified for the final before finishing sixth. She expressed her pride in her first GCC Games appearance and in winning team bronze alongside her teammates.
Yahya Suhail Al Muhairi extended his thanks to the UAE Olympic Committee and the UAE Shooting Federation for their continued support, affirming that returning to the podium marks a new beginning for further achievements in the next stage.
