Sharjah Women’s Sports Club were crowned volleyball champions at the eighth edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament after a 3–0 victory over Kuwait’s Al Fatat Sports Club in final round-robin match, sealing the title in front of a home crowd and bringing a tightly contested championship race to a close.
Al Wasl secured the silver medal after earlier defeating Lebanon’s Club Jeunesse Bauchrieh 3–1 to remain in title contention until the final fixture, while Al Fatat Sports Club of Kuwait settled for bronze following their three-set defeat to the hosts in the championship decider.
The medal ceremony was held in the presence of Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of AWST Supreme Organising Committee Sheikha Hayat Al Khalifa, Chairperson of the oversight and follow-up committee of AWST, Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Anzi, Secretary General of UANOC, Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chair of the Supreme Organising Committee of AWST, Tamer Gomaa, representative of the League of Arab States and member of the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports, Moza Al Shamsi, Director of AWST, Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council and strategic partner of AWST 2026, Saleh Ashour, Chairman of the Technical Coordination Committee and Khalid Abdullah Hamad, Vice President of the African Volleyball Confederation and Chairman of the Competition Appeals Committee.
The ceremony was attended by Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hashar Al Maktoum, Board Member of the UAE Volleyball Federation, Chairwoman of the Federation’s Women’s Committee, and Supervisor of Al Wasl Women’s Volleyball Team, H.E. Noura Al Noman, Chairperson of the Executive Office of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Osama Gargash, Vice President of the UAE Volleyball Federation and Board Member of the Arab Volleyball Federation; H.E. Sharjah Women’s Sports Club sealed the title in commanding fashion with a straight-sets victory over Kuwait’s Al Fatat Sports Club, winning 25–13, 25–23, 25–17 in the decisive final match. The hosts set the tone early with strong serving and disciplined blocking to take the opening set comfortably. Although Al Fatat responded in a tighter second set and pushed Sharjah deep into extended rallies, the Emirati side held firm at the key moments before reasserting control in the third, closing out the contest with authority to confirm the championship.
Al Wasl push race to the wire with four-set win
Earlier, Al Wasl kept the title race alive with a 3–1 win over Lebanon’s Club Jeunesse Bauchrieh, taking the match 25–19, 22–25, 25–19, 25–23. The Emirati side controlled the first and third sets with steady serve pressure and efficient attacking, while the Lebanese club responded to claim the second. A tight fourth set went Al Wasl’s way as they held firm in the closing points, ensuring the championship would be decided in the final match of the day.
Iraq’s Akkad Ankawa Club signed off their campaign with a four-set victory over Syria’s Taldara Club, winning 25–16, 23–25, 25–19, 25–22 in Thursday’s opening match. Akkad Ankawa made a strong start to take the first set comfortably before Taldara responded to level the contest after edging a tight second. The Iraqi side regained control in the third with consistent attacking pressure and closed out the fourth despite a late Syrian rally, securing a 3–1 win to improve their final standing outside the medal positions.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Petrojet Sporting Club sealed a commanding table tennis treble at the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2026), adding singles and doubles gold to their earlier team title in Sharjah.
Petrojet secured the gold and silver in the singles championship through Farah Hassan Abdelaziz, who defeated her club teammate Noor Salah Ahmed in the final 3–2 after a closely contested match between two players well acquainted with each other’s style.
Kuwait’s Maryam Suleiman Abdulraheem finished third, while Lebanon’s Bissan Wissam Chiri claimed third place jointly, earning bronze.
The singles event began with a group stage before progressing to knockout rounds.
Petrojet dominate doubles competition
In the doubles championship, Farah Hassan Abdelaziz and Noor Salah Ahmed delivered a commanding performance to secure gold for Petrojet. Kuwait’s Al Fatat Club claimed silver through Menwah Majed Alshammari and Maryam Suleiman Abdulraheem.
Sharjah Women’s Sports Club secured bronze through the pairings of Noura Hassan Almaazmi and Ahlam Adel Abdalla, as well as Hessa Saud Alnemer and Asma Ibrahim Alhammadi, who shared third place.
Eight teams competed in the doubles competition, which followed a straight knockout format.
Petrojet were also officially crowned team champions, lifting the trophy and gold medals through Marwa Hesham Ismail, Mariam Hudaibi, Farah Hassan Abdelaziz and Noor Salah Ahmed.
Al Fatat Club of Kuwait finished second, represented by Mariam Khaled Alhalwaji, Shaikha Adnan Alhamad, Menwah Majed Alshammari and Maryam Suleiman Abdulraheem.
Sharjah Women’s Sports Club secured third place through Shahed Arif Alzarooni, Hessa Saud Alnemer, Asma Ibrahim Alhammadi and Ahlam Adel Abdalla, while Palestine placed third jointly through Safaa Mohammed Salah and Dana Ahmed Masalma.
