UAE national team fencer and Fujairah Martial Arts Club athlete Fares Al Bloushi achieved a historic milestone by winning the bronze medal in the foil event at the Under-20 World Cup held in Costa Rica, marking the first-ever medal for the UAE in this age category at World Cup competitions.
Al Bloushi’s triumph came after an outstanding tournament run, where he secured four victories against a single loss in the preliminary rounds. He continued his impressive performance in the knockout stages, winning the Round of 32 with a score of 15-8, the Round of 16 with 8-7, and the quarterfinal 15-13, ultimately guaranteeing the bronze medal after reaching the semi-finals.
Nader Abu Shawish, Director of Fujairah Martial Arts Club, stated that this achievement reflects the structured efforts within the club. He noted that Fares is part of the club’s elite team, which follows a specialized development program that included multiple training camps in Europe and selective international competitions, in preparation for the upcoming Asian Championship in Indonesia.
He emphasized that this accomplishment is a direct result of the continuous support from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, for the club’s athletes, highlighting that these results embody the vision of cultivating a generation of athletes capable of competing for international titles and proudly representing the UAE.
Abu Shawish also expressed gratitude to the UAE Fencing Federation, headed by Eng. Sheikh Salem Al Qasimi, for their ongoing support in player development and supervision of international participations, which strengthens the UAE’s presence in global fencing.
This historic achievement underscores the growing stature of Fujairah Martial Arts Club as a leading sports center in nurturing champions and advancing UAE sports on international podiums.
