UAE sportswomen delivered a commanding performance on the track and field at the Arab Women Sports Tournament 2026, asserting their dominance in emphatic fashion. With a glittering haul of 18 medals, they soared to the top of the athletics standings as the curtain fell on the competition on Tuesday, underlining their strength, depth and rising stature on the regional stage.
Across three thrilling days of competition, the Emirati contingent showcased remarkable dominance, amassing seven gold, five silver, and six bronze medals.
The UAE’s dominant performance in athletics secured them a commanding lead, showcasing their depth and consistency.
Egypt finished second with 12 medals (6 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze), followed by Iraq with 12 (3 gold, 6 silver, 3 bronze). Jordan claimed fourth (3 gold, 1 bronze), Kuwait fifth (2 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze), Saudi Arabia sixth (3 silver, 2 bronze), Libya seventh (1 silver), while Palestine ended without a medal.
In the heptathlon, Egypt’s Aya Walid Eldiasti won gold, with teammate Nour Abdo Abdelhamed taking silver, and Kuwait’s Aljazi Abdulaziz Farhan claiming bronze.
In the women’s 100m hurdles, Sharjah’s Sara Fahad Mohammed took gold in 14.62 seconds, followed by Sarah Abdulkareem Alhelal (15.00) and Aljazi Abdulaziz Farhan (15.36).
Sharjah Women’s Sports Club dominated the pole vault with Shahad Abdulla Ahmad winning gold and Alyaziah Tariq Doei silver, both clearing 2.60m.
In discus, Abu Dhabi’s Fatima Yousif Alhosani took gold (47.06m), Retag Salem Asaiah (Libya) silver (44.40m), and Salma Haitham Almarri (Abu Dhabi) bronze (39.37m).
Egypt’s Shereen Shabaan Ahmed won javelin gold (43.47m), Honya Bakhtiyar Mahmood (Al Fatat) silver (32.20m), and Shahd Kamel Elsayed (Egypt) bronze (29.38m).
Iraq dominated the women’s 5000m final, with Diana Kareem Saeed of Al Fatat Sports Club – Nineveh taking gold in 19:09.45. Kuwait’s Haya Ahmed Alrefai of Salwa Alsabah Club finished second in 19:25.13, while Rana Barakat Mohammed, also of Al Fatat – Nineveh, secured bronze in 19:55.69.
Jordan’s Wala Mohammad Alqawasmi (Al Qadisiyah SC) won the women’s 800m in 2:21.29, followed by Egypt’s Rahma Adel Ahmed (2:23.18) and Ruqayya Mohammed Almarzooqi (2:24.18) of Abu Dhabi Athletics Club.
Egypt’s National Talent Club took gold in the 4×100m relay (49.53), with Kuwait’s Salwa Alsabah Club (51.08) second and Sharjah Women’s Sports Club (52.51) third.
Kuwait’s Aisha Waleed Alkhader won long jump (5.47m), Iraq’s Maryam Abdulilah Abdulilah (5.15m) silver, and Egypt’s Nour Abdo Abdelhamid (5.13m) bronze. Fatima Yousif Alhosani (Abu Dhabi) added shot put gold (12.36m), Honya Bakhtiyar Mahmood silver (11.37m), and Kuwait’s Dana Ali Alazemi bronze (10.31m).
Sharjah’s Mahra Abdulrahim Enqelya claimed 400m hurdles gold (1:03.23), teammate Sara Fahad Mohammed silver (1:04.60), and Sarah Abdulkareem Alhelal (Khaleej Club) bronze (1:06.46).
In the 200m, Egypt’s Shaza Hossam Ahmed won gold (25.56), Saudi Arabia’s Lujain Ibrahim Alhumaid silver (25.85), and UAE’s Fatma Ali Alblooshi bronze (26.13). Aya Walid Eldiasti (Egypt) cleared 1.63m to win high jump gold, with Iraq’s Maryam Abdulilah Abdulilah silver, and UAE’s Samar Saleh Alsaadiya bronze (1.50m).
Iraq’s Narjis Hussein Abbood of Al Fatat Sports Club – Nineveh won gold in the 1500m in 4:43.80. Ruqayya Mohammed Almarzooqi of Abu Dhabi Athletics Club finished second in 5:02.44, followed by Egypt’s Rahma Adel Ahmed in 5:07.96.
The UAE claimed gold in the women’s 4×400m relay, with Sharjah Women’s Sports Club recording a combined time of 4:00.43. Iraq finished second in 4:02.15, while Jordan secured bronze in 4:03.88.
Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of the AWST Higher Organising Committee; Moza Al Shamsi, Director of the Tournament, Sheikha Hayat Bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Chairperson of the Supervision and Follow-up Committee, and other were present during the presentations.
Meanwhile, the AWST 2026 volleyball title will be decided on Thursday as Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, Kuwait’s Al Fatat, and UAE’s Al Wasl enter the final day level on points in a tight race. Sharjah lead on set ratio (9), followed by Al Fatat (6) and Al Wasl (5).
Thursday’s action begins at 12pm with Syria’s Taldara Club vs Iraq’s Akkad Ankawa Club, followed by Al Wasl taking on Lebanon’s Club Jeunesse Bauchrieh. The championship concludes with a decisive clash between Sharjah and Al Fatat.
Sharjah will win gold with a 3–0 or 3–1 victory over Al Fatat; the Kuwaiti side takes the title with the same scoreline in their favor. A 3–2 result for either team, combined with a 3–0 or 3–1 win for Al Wasl over Jeunesse Bauchrieh, would see the Emirati club claim gold on set ratio. A loss for Al Wasl would drop them out of medal contention.
Egypt’s Petrojet bag table tennis team gold: Egypt’s Petrojet Sporting Club dominated the table tennis team competition at the Arab Women Sports Tournament, claiming gold after finishing unbeaten across three days of matches. Kuwait’s Al Fatat Club took silver, while hosts Sharjah Women’s Sports Club earned bronze.
Five clubs competed in a single round-robin format over two days. Petrojet opened with 3–0 wins over Lebanon and Al Fatat, then continued their streak with victories over Palestine and Sharjah to secure the title with eight points. Al Fatat finished second with seven points, and Sharjah third with six. Other results included Al Fatat defeating Palestine 3–0, Sharjah beating Nadweh Komatieh 3–1, and Palestine ending with a 3–0 win over Nadweh Komatieh.
Morocco clinch Taekwondo Gold: Taekwondo competitions at AWST 2026 concluded on Wednesday at Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled, with Morocco topping the medal table, Jordan finishing second, and Saudi Arabia ended third after two days of intense bouts.
Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Taekwondo Club led the overall standings, followed by Jordan’s Prince Rashid bin Al Hassan Centre and Saudi Arabia’s Al Qadsiah Sports Club.
Gold medalists included Morocco’s Fatima Al Mustapha Bensaid (-46kg) and Merieme Ahmed Khoulal (-62kg), Jordan’s Fadia Mazin Khirfan (-57kg) and Razan Mohammed Alrawashdeh (-67kg), Bahrain’s Fatema Sadeq Kalawadh (-49kg), Saudi Arabia’s Dunya Bushaib (-73kg), and Prince Rashid Centre’s Rama Ayman Abo-Alrub (+73kg). Silver and bronze medals were shared among athletes from Iraq, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Jordan across all weight categories.
Special awards went to Iraq’s Ghaz Al Shamal Club (Best Club), Fadia Khirfan of Prince Rashid Centre (Best Player), and Qatar’s Kulthum Al Mutawa’a (Best Referee).
