The UAE dominated the archery competitions at the 8th edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2026) in Sharjah, topping the medal standings with two gold, four silver and two bronze medals as the competitions concluded on Wednesday.
Sharjah Women’s Sports Club and Abu Dhabi Archery Club led the UAE’s success across recurve and compound team and individual events, while Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait also earned podium finishes.
In the recurve team competition, Sharjah Women’s Sports Club claimed the gold medal, with Abu Dhabi Archery Club taking silver. Kuwait Shooting Club secured the bronze medal.
The compound team title was secured by Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, who won the gold medal, while Abu Dhabi Archery Club claimed silver.
In the individual compound event, Fatimah Al Mashhadani of Iraqi Airways Club captured the gold medal. Amna Alawadhi of Sharjah Women’s Sports Club won silver, while teammate Rawda Al-Awadhi claimed bronze.
The recurve individual title was claimed by Qatari Reem Al-Saei of Al Rami Club. Maha Al-Housni of Sharjah Women’s Sports Club finished second, with Huda Al-Ali of Abu Dhabi Archery Club taking bronze.
With all recurve and compound team and individual events completed, the archery competition officially concluded with the medal awarding ceremony at AWST 2026.
Meanwhile, precision and focus will define the shooting competitions at AWST 2026, which begin on Friday as part of the AWST 2026 organised by Sharjah Women’s Sports, bringing together five Arab teams to compete for podium honours in Sharjah.
The competitions will be held at Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club, with athletes contesting the 10m air pistol events before the programme continues with the 10m air rifle competitions on Sunday, concluding with the official medal ceremony.
Five teams will compete in the shooting events, led by the UAE’s Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, alongside Kuwaiti Shooting Sport Club, Team Saudi, Bahraini Al Riffa Sports Club, and Al Ramii Club of Qatar.
The details were announced following the technical meeting on Wednesday in the presence of Sheikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Chair of the Supervision and Follow-up Committee of the Arab Women Sports Tournament; Mouza Al Shamsi, Director of AWST; Ilyazia Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of AWST; Saleh Ashour, Chair of the Technical Coordination Committee; and Tamer Gomaa, Representative of the League of Arab States and Member of the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers for Youth and Sports.
Discussions during the meeting emphasised strict adherence to technical and organisational regulations to ensure smooth competition and fair play. A briefing by the National Anti-Doping Agency outlined approved procedures and the need for coordination when athletes require medication, safeguarding both athlete welfare and competition integrity.

For her part, Sheikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa highlighted the AWST’s continued distinction since its launch, crediting the support of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi. She underscored the importance of strong technical and organisational frameworks, citing the high level of coordination among the tournament’s committees.
Mouza Al Shamsi welcomed the participating delegations and wished the athletes success, praising the cooperation between the organisational and technical committees.
On the technical side, the meeting reviewed the competition schedule, athlete eligibility, and accreditation procedures, with referees stressing strict adherence to international regulations.
