SHARJAH: Salim Said Hamad Alrushaidi’s SSR Khilan put on an impressive display in the GCC Cup, sponsored by the Sharjah Sports Council, during the fourth meeting at the Sharjah Longines Racecourse on Sunday.
The four-year-old son of Omaier, under the guidance of trainer Abdulaziz Al Rushaidi and ridden by Hamed Al Malki, showcased his exceptional ability to stay ahead of Al Ajban Stables’ Hameem.
SSR Khilan clinched victory by more than a length, displaying remarkable resilience and speed in the final stretch.
In a well-fought contest, Ibrahim Al Hadhrami’s Ramz Muscat secured third place, rounding out the top three finishers.
Despite Hameem’s considerable experience and superior rating, the SSR Khilan proved to be the more efficient and determined horse, ultimately emerging victorious in what became a thrilling finale.
The winners’ trophies were awarded by Sultan Mohammed Khalifa Al-Yahyai, Director-General of the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club.
In other thrilling races, YAS Racing’s Nisreen Al Wathba claimed the Al Marwan Developments race, overcoming a strong challenge from Abdallah Al Hammadi’s Kasaied to secure the win.
Abu Dhabi Racing achieved a double, with Waseem Baynounah winning the opening race of the six-race card and Zahrat Baynounah landing the second race of the Al Marwan Developments series.
In an exhilarating finish to the third race, AF Alfareq, owned by Mohamed Mosabbah Mohammed Al Mazrouei, showcased remarkable grit to secure a hard-fought victory. Trained by Qais Aboud, AF Alfareq’s was perfectly positioned by jockey Bernardo Pinheiro, who timed his final surge to perfection.
The climax of the race saw a thrilling duel as AF Alfareq went head-to-head with Khalid Khalifa Al Nabooda’s AF Mi’aad.
In a breathless dash to the wire, AF Alfareq managed to dig deep, narrowly fending off the challenge to win by a mere neck.
This race was restricted to UAE-bred Purebred Arabians, adding to its prestige and competitive edge.
The meeting concluded with an exciting victory by Bhupat Seemar’s Arabian Angel, who triumphed with an impressive eight-length lead over Barq Al Emarat, ridden by Salman Al Sabri. Split the Profit claimed third place, rounding off a thrilling day of races at Sharjah Longines Racecourse.
