Omar Abdulrahman, nicknamed Amouri, the star of the UAE national team and former player for Al Ain, Al Jazira, Shabab Al Ahli, and Al Wasl clubs, has announced his retirement from football at the age of 34. His illustrious career, marked by moments of brilliance and numerous injuries, has now come to an end.
Al Wasl was the last club Amouri played for. He began his professional career with Al Ain in 2008, quickly becoming one of the most skillful and celebrated Emirati players of his generation. Over the years, he won several individual and team titles and was named AFC Player of the Year in 2016.
On Instagram, Omar Abdulrahman wrote, “Today, with love and gratitude, I announce my retirement from football after a beautiful journey that spanned many years, filled with challenges and achievements. It was a journey built on hard work and the support of loyal fans.”
He continued: “I extend my thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Al Ain Club, for his trust and immense support throughout my career. I also thank Mohammed bin Thaloob Al Derei, Nasser bin Thaloob Al Derei, and Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi for their continuous encouragement.”
Amouri added: “I would like to thank Al Ain Club and its loyal fans for their support throughout my years at this great institution, which were filled with championships and achievements.”
He also expressed gratitude to Al Jazira, Shabab Al Ahli, Al Wasl, and Al Hilal Saudi Club, all of which he represented during his career.
Concluding his message, he said: “Today, I close this beautiful chapter of my life and begin a new journey.”
