The international mixed-martial-arts organization Absolute Championship Akhmat (ACA) has announced that American heavyweight Tony Johnson will make his long-awaited return to the cage at ACA 194, taking place on October 23 at The Agenda Arena in Dubai.
After more than a year of absence, Johnson is set to mark his comeback with a renewed sense of focus and determination. Speaking about the challenges he faced during his time away, the American fighter revealed that he had to overcome personal and administrative hurdles before being cleared to compete again.
“My absence had to do with personal matters. I had to settle back home. It took time, but I managed to resolve everything and return to what I love most — competing,” Johnson explained. “It’s been a long journey, but I’m grateful to be back and focused entirely on my fighting career.”
The seasoned athlete, known for his knockout power and composure inside the cage, admitted that missing an entire fight camp without competing was mentally difficult.
“It was really tough. You put your heart and soul into training, and when the fight doesn’t happen, it takes a toll,” he said. “I was in a dark place for a while, but I’m mentally strong. I bounced back, and now I’m better than ever.”
Johnson spent the last several months in intensive training between the United States and Germany, dedicating himself to a disciplined regimen aimed at returning to top form.
“I’ve been training hard, especially in Germany for more than a month and a half,” he said. “I’ve prepared for everything my opponent can bring. Once I stop his takedown, he has nothing for me.”
At ACA 194, Johnson will face Iranian heavyweight Amir Aliakbari in one of the most anticipated matchups on the card. The two fighters previously competed under the ACA banner, and Johnson said he had long expected their paths to meet again.
“I knew from the start our paths would cross again,” he said. “When he rejoined ACA, I was ready. I knew his name would come across my table eventually. He’s a strong opponent, but I’ve studied his style and I’m confident in my preparation.”
As for his prediction, Johnson’s answer reflected both confidence and hunger.
“Knockout. That’s the plan,” he declared. “It’s been a full year since I’ve stepped into the cage, and I’m hungry. I believe it ends in the first round — maybe the second, but he’s going to sleep for sure.”
ACA 194 brings together a strong lineup of international fighters in what promises to be one of the most electrifying mixed-martial-arts nights of the year. The event underscores Dubai’s position as a global destination for major combat-sports events, combining world-class athleticism with passionate fan engagement.
