The Al Ain Desert Classic Chess Championship concluded on successful note in Al Ain with a remarkable fans turnout.
The tournament showcased high-level performances, reflecting the players’ passion, competitive spirit, and determination to excel.
Ahmed Younis Al Khamiri was crowned champion after scoring 4.5 points, edging out his competitor Ghaith Saeed Al Nuaimi, who finished as runner-up with the same points tally based on tiebreak systems.
Saad Jaber Al Ahbabi claimed third place with 4 points in a tournament that remained fiercely competitive until the final round.
The award ceremony was attended by sports and administrative figures, with Sultan Abdullah Al Arif Al Dhaheri, Chairman of Al Ain Youth Council – ICMG, presenting the trophies and medals to the winners amid a festive atmosphere that highlighted the event’s organizational and technical success.
Omar Al Waswasi, Chairman of the Marketing and Strategic Partnerships Committee, said: “The Al Ain Desert Classic Chess Championship has become an important platform for discovering national talents and developing the skills of young players, enhancing the UAE’s presence in regional and international arenas. We were delighted by the high level of performance displayed by the players, reflecting their seriousness and ambition in advancing the game.”
The tournament also honored a number of talents across different categories. Sheikha Al Marri received the award for Best Emirati Female Player, while Sultan Al Dhaheri was named Best Emirati Player.
In the under-14 category, Salem Al Bloushi and Latifa Al Obaidli stood out, while Saeed Nasser Al Shamsi and Fatima Nasser Al Shamsi excelled in the under-12 category. In the under-10 category, Zayed Al Ali and Saghira Al Nuaimi showed remarkable talent, and Hamdan Al Zaabi and Maryam Al Kindi were crowned in the under-8 category. Academy awards went to Mohamed Faraj as Best Male Player and Talin Asliya as Best Female Player.
