UAE runner Abdulla Bin Hajar AlShehhi has successfully added the seventh star to his record in the Abbott World Marathon Majors, after completing the Sydney Marathon in Australia with a new personal best, reaffirming his position as the first Emirati to finish all six World Marathon Majors last year.
The Sydney Marathon officially joined the Abbott World Marathon Majors this year, becoming the seventh race in the series alongside Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York.
This gave AlShehhi’s participation in the event exceptional significance, as he is among the first runners in the world to collect all seven stars.
AlShehhi’s achievement marks another milestone in a sporting journey that has spanned more than 15 years, during which he has embodied perseverance and dedication. His participation in Sydney, on a course filled with challenging hills and elevation gains, proved once again that determination and willpower can overcome the toughest obstacles.
Speaking after the race, AlShehhi said: “Every step on the course was a new test, but my dream and determination were stronger than any fatigue. Crossing the finish line in front of the Sydney Opera House while raising the UAE flag is a moment that will remain engraved in my memory for life.”
The Sydney Marathon is considered a unique addition to his career, as it is among the most demanding races due to its hilly terrain. His success is not only a personal triumph but also a source of pride for all Emirati athletes who aspire to raise the nation’s flag high on global stages.
