Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum led UAE’s national skeet shooting team to win first place and the gold medal in the Dhofar Gulf Autumn Championship underway in Oman.
Sheikh Saeed also won the silver medal in the individual competition after tying for first place with world champion Kuwaiti shooter Abdulaziz Al Saad. They went to a golden shoot-off after both finished with a score of 57 targets.
Sheikh Saeed had returned to competition after a long absence, which had cast a shadow over the sport and the championship. Therefore, this comeback and the results achieved are considered an important step toward restoring UAE shooting to its winning ways.
The UAE skeet shooting team consists of Sheikh Saeed Bin, Saif Bin Futtais, and Mohammed Hussein Ahmed.
This trio performed excellently in the team competition, and all of them qualified for the championship final—a phenomenon reminiscent of the golden era of skeet shooting.
UAE national team topped the team standings with 355 targets, followed by Oman in second place with 347, and Qatar in third with 335.
In the individual category, Kuwaiti shooter Abdullah Al-Rashidi—Rio de Janeiro Olympic medalist—came in third and won bronze with 42 targets.
UAE’s Mohammed Hassan placed fourth with 31 targets, followed by UAE’s Saif Bin Futtais in fifth with 23, and Oman’s Naghmosh Al-Hattali in sixth with 15.
In the women’s individual competition, Bahrain’s Mariam Al-Hassani won gold with 49 targets, Qatar’s Hajar Mohammed took silver with 45, and Bahrain’s Mariam Al-Asam claimed bronze with 35.
