The Fujairah Global Chess Championship 2025 pressed ahead with the seventh round, edging closer to its decisive stages, as the Fujairah Chess and Culture Club, at its new headquarters, simultaneously hosted the meeting of the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission.
This step reaffirms Fujairah’s position as a platform for organizing international events and supporting the global chess ecosystem.
The club’s Board of Directors, headed by Dr. Abdullah Aal Barket and attended by Vice President of the club Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi and other members, welcomed the delegation of the International Arbiters’ Commission.
The visit included distinguished officials such as Ivan Syrovy, Chairman of the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission, Sava Stoisavljevic, FIDE Chief Operations Officer, Nebojsa Baralic, Secretary of the commission, in addition to advisors Mahdi Abdul Rahim, Chanda Nsakanya, and Han Yajun.
The meeting addressed several key points, most notably development programmes for the upcoming season, nominations of arbiters for world championships, updates to the laws of Chess and competition regulations, in addition to disciplinary procedures, sanctions, and mechanisms for awarding titles and granting international licenses for arbiters.
Hosting the commission’s meeting during the championship reflects the depth of cooperation and coordination between the Fujairah Chess and Culture Club and FIDE, and reinforces the institutional role undertaken by the club in advancing the arbitration environment and supporting elite-level competitions on the international stage.
Meanwhile, The organizing committee arranged an introductory tour of Fujairah’s landmarks for the participating delegations, which included visits to Fujairah Fort, Sheikh Zayed Mosque, and Umbrella Beach, in an interactive atmosphere that reflected the beauty of nature and the richness of the emirate’s historical heritage.
The tour concluded with traditional Emirati dishes served at the home of Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi, Vice Chairman of the Board, as part of an initiative aimed at promoting cultural exchange and highlighting Emirati values of generosity and hospitality.
