Sharjah Women's Sports Club started their campaign in style with a comfortable win over Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy at the General Basketball League.

Dominating the proceedings from the beginning, Sharjah Women's Sports Club players cruised past their rivals 71-49 at the Bani Yas Club in Abu Dhabi.

The success behind different teams of the club stems from the unwavering support of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Sharjah Women's Sports, who was instrumental in promoting and launching women's sports in the nation and Sharjah in particular.

Sheikha Jawaher’s efforts led to the launch of the first women's basketball team in the country.

Waleed Al-Hujairi, coach of the Sharjah Women's Sports Club basketball team, expressed happiness at the victory.

“We are happy with our team's well-deserved victory, and the result will give strong motivation to our team in the coming rounds of the tournament.

“We studied the opponent well before the match and worked hard to execute the plan perfectly. I have a lot of faith in our players’ success in domestic and international competitions,” he added.
