The University of Sharjah has announced the completion of preparations to host the first Asian Cup in Classic Powerlifting.

The 2023 Asian Cup in Classic Powerlifting will be held under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah. The first sports meet for all male and female university and college players is scheduled to take place from August 16–21.

Athletes representing 46 universities, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Iran, Jordan, Syria, Pakistan, India, and Kyrgyzstan, will participate in the cup.

The International and Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation delegation reviewed the preparations and met with Professor Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor, University of Sharjah, UAE. They expressed gratitude and appreciation for the support that the UAE and the Emirate of Sharjah provide for sports on a global scale and throughout Asia. They also praised the University of Sharjah for its important role in all aspects, including sports.

Professor Eid Mohammad Kanaan, Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Sharjah and Chairman of the Organising Committee, emphasized that the university's decision to hold the competition is a reflection of its vision and strategy aimed at supporting students in all fields as well as the teaching aspect.

He stressed that the team, under the direction of Salah Al Ameri, Director of the Tournament Organizing Committee, worked diligently to prepare all organizational matters for the Asian Cup in Classic Powerlifting in order to present the best image and in line with the global status of the University of Sharjah.

Professor Kanaan also thanked the University of Sharjah administration for their support for the Asian Cup in Classic Powerlifting.

The organizing committee received approval from many institutions, and as a result, the UAE will send 13 universities, Iraq will send 17, Syria will send 5, India will send 4, and other countries will only send one university to compete in the Asian Cup in Classic Powerlifting.
