The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced, on Thursday, that the Saudi Al-Nassr club, in which Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo plays, is temporarily banned from contracting with any new player until debts are settled.

A FIFA spokesman told reporters that the Saudi club is “currently prohibited from registering new players due to unpaid debts,” confirming the information reported in the British media.

The International Federation did not specify the size and origin of these debts, or whether it jeopardized the transfer of Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic from Italian Inter Milan, who signed at the beginning of July with Al-Nassr.

The spokesman only said, "The aforementioned ban will be lifted once the debt settlement has been confirmed by the relevant creditors."

In October 2021, the Players’ Status Committee in FIFA ordered Al-Nassr Club to pay 460,000 euros to the English club Leicester City in addition to interest, in a dispute over the transfer of Nigerian Ahmed Musa, which ended with a total of 18 million euros.

According to the decision, which was seen by a section, Al-Nassr may be denied contracts for up to three seasons in the event of non-payment.
