VIDEO: Sharjah inaugurates 24-km bicycle only track

Sheikh Saud Bin Sultan Al Qasimi inaugurates the Al Batayeh Cycle track on Wednesday.

Sheikh Saud Bin Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Digital Office inaugurated Al Batayeh Cycle track on Wednesday morning.

The track was built on the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

Sheikh Sultan ordered the establishment of a path for cycling in Sharjah’s Central Region covering 24 kilometers, 48 kilometers back and forth, with a total width of 5 meters.

The track is equipped with car parks, prayer rooms and other facilities.

The authorities aim to make this track a distinguished sports destination for people from segments of the society.

The track is a distinguished tourist and sports destination for athletes and amateurs, as it was designed and implemented under the supervision of the Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey and the Roads and Transport Authority in the Emirate of Sharjah.

Currently the track includes 4 restrooms at the beginning and end.

In addition to restrooms, an open mosque has also been made.

The authorities said that more services are being prepared to add along the track, such as a bicycle rental and maintenance centre, and restaurants.

The authorities said that a future plan is being developed to add a second phase by adding more tracks and supporting it with more services and activities.
