UAE shuttlers claim five medals in Arab and West Asian Championships

The UAE national badminton team have returned home with flying colours, clinching five medals in their first overseas participation after the establishment of the new governing board in the federation.

The medals were won in the Arab Championship and the West Asian Championship, held in Kuwait.

UAE shuttlers Hind Al Mazrouei and Maryam Al-Hamid claimed the bronze medal in girls' doubles Under-15 competition, while Al-Hamid won a bronze in the girls' singles competition at the West Asian Championship.

In the Arab Championship, the team claimed three bronze medals thanks to the efforts of Nasser Al-Sayegh (Al-Nasr Club) and Muhammad Saif Al-Mazroui (Kalba Union), in the men's doubles Under-19 competition, and Hamed Al-Mazrouei and Muhammad Salem Al-Mazroui (both Kalba Union players) in the men's doubles U-17 competition.

The third bronze was won by Abdul Aziz Yahya, (Al-Nasr Club), and Muhammad Khalfan Al Mazrouei, (Kalba Union), in the men's doubles competitions Under-15 competition.

The West Asian Championship was held with the participation of 68 players from nine countries - UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Jordan and the hosts Kuwait.

Noura Al Jasmi, President of UAE Badminton Federation, expressed her happiness with the achievement of the shuttlers in the first overseas participation, stressing that the achievement is a motivation to work for more medals in the coming period.

"This achievement bears us a great responsibility to continue providing the best support to the players at all ages, because they are the nucleus of the future."
