As part of International Women's Day celebrations, the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, the nation’s governing body for jiu-jitsu, hosted Huda Al Matroushi, the first Emirati female mechanic, to raise awareness about the importance of ensuring gender parity in society.

The UAEJJF’s activities on women’s day, which this year is commemorated under the theme "Break the Bias," reinforce the Federation’s commitment to gender equality and eagerness to recognise and draw inspiration from such trailblazing women's accomplishments.

The UAE is considered one of the world's first countries to focus on creating a culture free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination, and has taken visible steps to enhance women's representation in a variety of areas historically dominated by men.

Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club’s Shatha Al Hosani, who won gold at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-jitsu Championship last year, paid a visit to Al Matroushi's car repair garage in Sharjah to learn more about her work and enthusiasm for one of the most niche, male-dominated professions. Al Matroushi later then visited the Jiu Jitsu Arena for an intimate insight into the sport.
