Iordachescu and Grivas share Sharjah Chess Championship lead

 Viorel Iordachescu and Efstratios Grivas shared the lead as the Zero 6 Mall Sharjah Chess Championship 2021 began on Friday.

Zero 6 Mall Sharjah Chess Championship is being organised by Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club in cooperation with mall administration and Sharjah International Chess Academy (SICA).

Grandmaster Iordachescu of Moldova and Greek Grandmaster Efstratios Grivas shared the lead after the five rounds of the championship.

Ukraine’s Adam Tukhaev is in third position. Moroccan International Master Ali Sebbar is occupying fourth place.

110 players from 22 countries are taking part in the championship, which got underway at the Zero 6 Mall under the strict health and safety protocols laid down by the UAE government.

Earlier, the opening ceremony and championship began in the presence of Sheikh Saud Al Mualla, President of the Arab Chess Federation and Chairman of Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club, Omar Noman Al Ali, Assistant Secretary General of the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club, Rajai Al Soussi, Executive Director of the club and a chess enthusiasts.
